The Oireachtas launched a digital transformation programme in 2018 to move away from siloed systems and manual – often inaccurate – processes that slow day-to-day operations, burden staff unnecessarily and make it difficult to share information. The programme modernized legislative processes, reduced paper usage, boosted accuracy and lightened staff workloads.
Several key economic bills will be discussed during the Monsoon session of Parliament, which starts Monday and runs until August 21. These include changes to income tax, merchant shipping regulations and mining laws. The government also plans to address opposition-raised issues including Donald Trump’s India-Pakistan ceasefire claims, Pahalgam attack and alleged electoral roll revisions in Bihar.
The session opens amid heightened tensions between Indian MPs and BJP leadership over the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma from the Lok Sabha. The move was triggered by the discovery of burnt currency at his residence, which he denied. Opposition MPs urged the Speaker to allow discussions on the issue and to clarify whether the decision to remove him was taken by a joint committee of both Houses. The Speaker emphasized the importance of constructive discussions and asked all parties to cooperate.
